Screening and diagnosis of heart diseases in companion animals

Diagnosis and screening of cardiopathies in small animals: our Observatory consists of a team of experienced veterinarians qualified in cardiology. After a careful and in-depth cardiac examination, they take care of the collection of epidemiological, clinical and echocardiographic data from dogs and cats and of the creation of an archive of genetic material of the examinated subjects.

USEFUL QUESTIONS

  • Why does a breeder or owner participate in a cardiology screening examination?
Our team of expert veterinarians are able to early diagnose feline and canine heart diseases through cardiological and echocardiography examination, in order to prolong duration and increase quality of their life.

Heart diseases can be congenital if present since birth or acquired if occurred during life.

Both can have a hereditary component, that originates from a genetic mutation that is inherited from parents to offspring which determines in whole or in part the evolution of the disease.
For this reason, breeders and owners, helped by the veterinary cardiologists, identify specific risks of each breed in order to avoid perpetuating genetic defects through wrong mating.
